Ed Wood is based on the stranger-than-fiction life of Hollywood´s worst director. Johnny Depp (From ”Sleepy Hollow”) plays the eccentric 50´s Hollywood B-movie director Edward D. Wood Jr. in this, one of the most acclaimed collaboration between Depp and director Tim Burton (Batman, Planet of the Apes).
Depp gives a funny, powerful performance as a man whom despite constant, rejection and derision was undyingly optimistic and enthusiastic about his work. Wood created some truly abysmal films using feeble budgets, cringe worthy scripts and ageing, drug-addicted former Hollywood stars such as Bela Lugosi (Oscar winning Martin Landau - Rounde,~) In funny yet moving scenes Burton recreates the making of Plan 9 From Outer Space - Woods´ most dire film.
Burton delves deep into Wood´s oddball life, exposing his love of dressing in women´s clothes and introducing some of Wood´s fascinating friends along the way. Ed´s kooky girlfriend, Dolores Fuller (Sex in the Citys Sarah Jessica Parker), wan nabe transsexual Bunny Brecken ridge, (Bill Murray - The floyal Tenenbaums) and sultry Kathy O´Hara (Patricia Arquette - Bringing out the Dead) all add colour and spice to this unique film.
